Chapter 1: Toy Secrets
Meet the toys, and learn their most important rule.
Nora DΓaz is 9 years old, and there is a secret in her bedroom that she doesn't even know about. Her toys are alive.
Whenever no people are around, the toys wake up. They stretch, they talk, they play games, and sometimes they argue. But the moment a person walks into the room, every single toy follows the most important rule of all.
The newest toy on Nora's shelf is Luma, a small white unicorn with a rainbow mane. Luma is magic. At night she glows soft pink and purple, and whenever she moves, a trail of sparkle dust falls from her mane. Nora got Luma for her birthday two weeks ago. Now Nora falls asleep in Luma's glow every night.
The other toys have mixed feelings about Luma.
The toys (and one kid) of Nora's room
The toys' leader is Inspector Quack, a yellow rubber duck with a tiny magnifying glass. He has solved every mystery in the bedroom: the Case of the Missing Sock, the Mystery of the Midnight Squeak, and many more.
But the case he is about to face is the hardest one yet. And he is going to need a partner. That's you.

Chapter 2: Missing!
Something terrible happens in the middle of the night.
On Friday night, Nora climbed into bed at 8:30. Luma sat on the top shelf, glowing softly. "Goodnight, Luma," Nora whispered. Soon she was fast asleep.
It was a busy night. Three different people came into Nora's room while she slept: Mom, Grandpa, and Sam. Each time the door opened, every toy froze in place, just like the rule says.
Then, at 12:30 in the morning, Nora woke up from a bad dream. She rolled over to look at Luma's glow... but the room was dark. The top shelf was empty. Luma was gone!
Nora ran down the hall to find Mom. As soon as the door closed behind her, Inspector Quack hopped off the bed.
"Toys, wake up!" he quacked. "We have a case to solve, and not much time!"
Quack clicked on his tiny flashlight and pointed it at the shelf. A trail of pink and purple sparkle dust ran from Luma's empty spot, down the side of the shelf, across the rug, and all the way under the bed. In the middle of the rug, the sparkle dust was smudged, as if someone had stepped or rolled right through it.
"Luma's sparkle dust only falls when she moves," Quack said slowly. "She didn't just fall off the shelf. Someone carried her away. And whoever it was left tracks!"
Then he frowned. "But first, we must figure out when this happened. Was it one of the people who came in tonight... or was it one of us?"

Puzzle 1: The Night Visitors
Figure out who came in, when, and why.
How to solve a logic grid
Each row and each column can have only one β. When you mark a β, the grid fills in β for the rest of that row and column.

Warm-up puzzle (optional)
Try this easy one first to learn how it works.
The real puzzle: Who visited Nora's room?
Inspector Quack asked around the house the next morning. Here's what he learned. Figure out what time each person came in and why.
The Alibis
Where was every toy at midnight?
Inspector Quack gathered the toys in a circle on the rug. "Luma was taken between 11:45 and 12:30," he said. "No people were in the room. So one of you did it." The toys gasped.
"Tell me exactly where you were at midnight," said Quack, "and what you were doing."
Quack scribbled in his notebook. "Hmm. Anyone can say anything," he muttered. "Luckily, I keep careful Night Watch notes. Let's see if these stories are true."

Puzzle 2: The Night Watch Notes
A harder 4-by-4 grid. Find out where every toy REALLY was.
These are Inspector Quack's Night Watch notes from midnight. Use them to figure out where each toy was and what they were doing. Then compare your answer to their alibis. Did anyone lie?
Evidence Lab
Test the tracks, check the sparkles, and find the hiding place.
Evidence 1: Tracks in the sparkle dust
Remember the smudge on the rug? Quack looked at it with his magnifying glass. Here's what he found.
Tracks going toward the bed.
Which toy made these tracks? Tap the matching tracks.
Evidence 2: Sparkle check
"Whoever carried Luma got her sparkle dust on them," said Quack. "Luma's sparkles are pink and purple." He shined his flashlight on the two toys who were alone at midnight.
Puzzle 3: Where is Luma?
The sparkle trail ends under the bed. Quack shined his light into the darkness and saw four things. Use the clues to rule out the wrong spots. Tap a spot to cross it out.
Quack's clues
- Luma's glow shines right through cloth, like a lamp through a sheet. But there was no glow at all under the bed.
- The hiding spot was big enough to hold a whole unicorn inside.
- The sparkle trail stops right next to something with a lid.
