The rules
- Your teacher picks one letter.
- Players take turns in order. On your turn, type a real word that starts with that letter.
- Watch the clock. Your teacher sets the time. If it runs out, you are out.
- Root words matter. If someone used car, you cannot use cars. If someone used rude, you cannot use ruder.
- The last player standing wins!
Stay on this page during the game. If you switch tabs or click away, you are out.
How to play
1. One letterYour teacher picks a letter. Every word in the game must start with it.
2. Take turnsPlayers go in order, one at a time. Type your word and press Enter.
3. Beat the clockYour teacher sets the time for each turn. If it runs out before you give a good word, you are out.
4. Roots matterNo sneaky copies. Car and cars share a root. So do rude, ruder, and rudely.

Start a game room
Show this page on the board. You will get a room code for students to type in.
How it runs
- Students open this page, click Play, and type the room code and their name.
- You pick the letter and press Start.
- The game goes in the order students joined. A different student starts each new game, so it stays fair.
- You can pause, put a student out, put a student back in, or remove a student at any time.
- In my room, talking means you are out. Why? Because you might give another student a word. Example: you say, "I can't stop laughing," and we are using L as our letter. You just gave another player an L word and cheated by accident.
Teacher note
- Words: the game checks every word against a school dictionary of about 80,000 words. Names of people and places do not count, and rude words are treated as not in the dictionary.
- Roots: a word is turned down if it shares a root with a word already used (car and cars, run and ran, rude and rudely, act and action). A word that is turned down does not put the student out. They can keep trying until the clock runs out.
- Tab rule: a student who switches tabs, opens another window, or clicks outside the game is out. This keeps students from looking up words. If it happens by accident, press Put back in next to their name. You can turn the rule off in the lobby, which is handy when you test alone with two windows.
- Time: 15 seconds is the normal setting. You can pick 10, 20, or 30 in the lobby for younger or older groups.
- Rooms: a room closes by itself after four quiet hours. Up to 40 students can join one room.
- Hard letters: X, Z, Q, and Y have very few words. Save them for a quick bonus round.
